Plot summary

One autumn day in 2046, Haruyuki has an encounter with Kuroyukihime, the prettiest girl in his school. For the middle school boy who is often bullied, the meeting changes his life. Through a mysterious piece of software from her, Haruyuki learns of the existence of the virtual Accel World. In that moment, the lowest of the “school caste” becomes “Burst Linker”, a knight defending a princess.

What I liked

Ok, first thing, I loved the concept of this anime. The neurolinker is a really real-futuristic concept and the profound effects on society are very well showed in the series. The next concept I liked was the MMOs game Brain Burst, as it offers the ability to slow time in real life to a near stop… what’s an amazing technology that would be.

It has good characters! Despite Haruyuki, is short, fat, and a bullied guy, he’s amazing due to his online skills and his character development well carried out. Also… just a critical-thought but generally an anime only needs nice-cute-well drawn female characters to have an audience, so I guess that’s why it’s not a big deal that the main character being not visually attractive (but it’s just a personal thought!).

Where to improve?

Alright, just to avoid any common comparisons with the idea that accel world is like SAO, well…  both are written by Reki Kawahara and of course you can’t compare it to SAO… plot might be similar in some aspects, but the character development and plot sequence is different. I’m not saying that SAO is the perfect anime… but it gave me the feeling that some things SAO has just don’t work for Accel World.

The anime started really well, but halfway through the development of the storyline plot and challenges-troubles just were not fulfilling, just a story that can be seen in so other animes.  Also the ending of the anime based on the so called “Power of friendship and treason”, this just exceeds it’s natural credibility in this anime… friendship just won’t fix things. Only works as it is fiction, however with the emphasis on mental scarring in this series they should have handled it better rather than glossing it over.
